Audubon Zoo in New Orleans has a third sea lion. Missy, an eight-year-old California sea lion, joined the zoo’s colony on April 14, 2026, arriving from California, and the zoo introduced her publicly on July 9.
She joins Roux and Zoey, two 14-year-old females, which gives Audubon a colony of three.
Her keepers describe a sea lion who has settled into the city with some enthusiasm. Missy likes naps and afternoons spent sunning herself. They also call her incredibly smart, quick to take part in training sessions and interested in investigating anything new that turns up in her habitat.
Seeing her
Guests can watch all three sea lions swimming and training daily, and the sea lion keepers are available to talk with visitors regularly on weekends. That is the part worth planning around. A keeper standing at the edge of the pool answering questions while three sea lions work is how most people end up caring about the species in the first place.
