WWT is running SUPER Natural across its wetland centers again this autumn, for one week only, from Saturday October 24 to Sunday November 1, 2026. The charity announced the return on August 20. It is a deliberately unscary alternative to Halloween programming, aimed at younger children, and it is built around walking around outside rather than queuing for anything.
What it is
On arrival, visitors pick up a SUPER Natural logbook and set off on a self-guided route around the wetlands, finding autumn wildlife and nature activities as they go. WWT describes the event as a scare-free way to mark Halloween and as an encouragement to get outdoors.
The activities WWT lists across its sites are: weaving a willow wand, mixing a marshland potion and making a wish for wetlands and wildlife, a fungi hunt for spotted tops and giant domes, examining an owl pellet, stepping into a fairy mushroom ring, and pond dipping for the animals living under the surface.
What else is on at individual centers
WWT says many of its sites will run additional seasonal experiences over October half term alongside SUPER Natural. It names canoe adventures, pumpkin carving, UV light science shows, and the Mystical Marsh Lantern Experience at WWT Slimbridge in Gloucestershire.
The charity has not published a price for SUPER Natural or said whether the activities are included with standard admission, and its announcement does not break the programming down site by site. Anyone planning a specific visit will need the individual center’s own page for that.

Why autumn, and why wetlands
The timing is not incidental. WWT points out that its reserves change character in autumn: migrating birds arrive in large flocks, and fungi come up across the sites, from crimson waxcaps to ghostly inkcaps. An event built on a fungi hunt and an autumn trail is an event built on what is actually happening outside in late October, which is a more durable idea than a themed decoration.
The charity also makes a wellbeing argument for it, citing evidence that connecting with nature makes children happier, improves self-esteem and behavior, and benefits physical and mental health, and that hands-on outdoor experience builds confidence and curiosity.
Where to find it
WWT runs ten wetland centers in the United Kingdom: Arundel, Caerlaverock, Castle Espie, Llanelli, London, Martin Mere, Slimbridge, Steart Marshes, Washington and Welney. The announcement is a national one rather than a single-site listing, and says only that activities take place across WWT’s sites nationwide.
Slimbridge is the site WWT singles out by name, for the lantern experience. It is also the site where the charity’s headstarting work happens, and readers who came to WWT through that side of it can find the current state of play in our report on the rescued clutch that has now bred a second generation at Slimbridge. WWT Caerlaverock in Dumfries and Galloway, which reopened to visitors this summer on a three-day week, is on the list of centers as well, though the announcement does not say what it is running.
One practical caution
This is a one-week event with a fixed end date. It closes on November 1, 2026, and there is no indication in the announcement that anything runs beyond it. Booking details and full event information are on WWT’s own event page, which the charity links from the announcement.
