Longleat has revealed the theme for its 2026 Festival of Light. The trail is called Legendary Worlds, it opens on November 7, 2026, and it runs for 2.5 kilometers, about a mile and a half, through the Wiltshire estate. The park says the display carries more than 1,000 lanterns.
Longleat published a first look at the lanterns on September 3, giving visitors two months of notice on one of the larger illuminated trails in Britain.
What is on the trail this year
The theme is myth and legend, drawn from several traditions rather than one. Among the scenes Longleat has shown are a phoenix rising from its ashes, King Arthur pulling Excalibur from the stone, the Greek god Poseidon surfacing out of a wave with his trident raised, Thor in combat with a serpent, and a Trojan horse. Dragons, giants and fairies appear along the route, as do the signs of the zodiac, and the park lists Atlantis among the worlds represented.

The lanterns are built on frames and lit from within, the technique that comes out of the Chinese lantern festival tradition and that has become the standard form for winter trails of this kind at European zoos and safari parks.
What else runs alongside it
The Festival of Light is not the only thing operating on those evenings. Longleat is also running its Enchanted Christmas Tree Show, a Santa’s Grotto, and festive market huts on the estate.
The park is pairing the announcement with its recent animal arrivals, which it lists as tiger cubs, wolf pups, capybara cubs and a red panda cub.
