Zoo Miami broke ground on a new animal hospital on Friday, February 20, 2026, a 25,000 square-foot facility that will let visitors watch veterinary care as it happens.
The building is being funded through a public-private partnership and will sit along a public guest pathway rather than behind the scenes, an arrangement that puts the zoo’s medical work into the visitor route through the park.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and County Commissioner Kionne McGhee attended the ceremony, along with Christina White, director of Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces, and leadership from Zoo Miami and the Zoo Miami Foundation.
The zoo describes the hospital as designed to elevate animal care and welfare. It has not announced a completion date.
