Tampa, FL – The Florida Aquarium saw a record-breaking year in 2022 with nearly 925,000 guests visiting the facility. The aquarium credits the success to new exhibits and guest experiences, including the Shorelines Gallery, SeaTrek, the Tampa General Hospital Animal Health Care Center, a birds of prey exhibition, and improved holiday events. The Florida Aquarium is also currently undergoing a $40 million expansion to add sea lions, puffins, and more.
“We are grateful for the support of our community, tourists, and members,” said Roger Germann, Aquarium president and CEO. “The Florida Aquarium plays a crucial role in conservation efforts, education, and providing unique animal-centric experiences.”
The record-breaking attendance numbers come amid a surge in tourism revenue and occupancy in Tampa Bay. Santiago C. Corrada, President and CEO of Visit Tampa Bay, noted that the success of The Florida Aquarium is a testament to the hard work and dedication of local stakeholders and partners.
Germann added that The Florida Aquarium is ranked among the best in North America and consistently drives the economy, educates schoolchildren, and supports local community programs. With the ongoing expansion, the aquarium is eager to welcome even more guests in the coming years.
